The village of Mockfjärd stands in the rural heart of Sweden to the north west of the capital Stockholm. The region is known as Dalarna, meaning The Valleys, which describes the rolling countryside around Mockfjärd. The village itself grew up either side of a bridge over the Västerdalalven River. Hire a car in Mockfjärd to explore the Dalarna area. You'll find lakes, forest and farmland between the market towns and villages, with plenty of opportunities to fish, walk and gaze at the unspoilt countryside. The nearest city is Borlänge, 2 miles east, which offers historic houses, modern shopping and dozens of restaurants.
There's a pretty whitewashed church, a mini golf course and quiet streets of painted wooden houses, but don't expect too many bright lights in this small rural community. If you hire a car in Mockfjärd you'll be able to explore a bit further afield. One of the best local attractions is the Old Homestead Museum near the river. This is an original red-painted wooden 19th-century farm preserved for visitors. You'll find more than 3,000 everyday farm objects on display here which should give you a real feel for the rural history of the village.
