The small regional airport at Lycksele occupies a flat patch of land on the west bank of the Lill-tannselet River, about three miles south of the town itself. If you pick up a hire car at the airport you'll find that Lycksele is an easy drive north through the woods on the 598 road. The E12 highway runs along the opposite bank of the river. The airfield itself is a simple single-runway affair with a modern terminal building. The airport is mainly used for domestic flights and the local air ambulance.
Visitors who hire a car at Lycksele Airport often use it as a gateway to the Swedish Lapland region. The town itself is worth a visit though. There's an interesting family-friendly zoo, the Djurparken, which features over 30 species of animals suited to this latitude, including bears, wolves and otters. The Gammplasten Museum is a typically Swedish open-air display of old buildings and artefacts in woods alongside the river. You'll see impressive Sami carvings and a charming café here too. There are also more attractions suited to more active visitors too: Ansia Badpark is a sophisticated waterpark and Trollbäcken offers ‘survival' games from quad-biking to river rafting.
