Linköping Airport stands in a flat grassy spot just on the eastern outskirts of the city, on the eastern side of the Stångån River. The Route 35 dual carriageway loops round the airfield so, if you hire a car from Linköping Airport, you'll have easy access to the E4 motorway to the north or down the 35 to the coast. The airfield itself is shared between international and domestic passenger flights and private commercial use by Saab. There's a small white modern terminal building, ample outside parking and drivers who pick up a hire car at the airport can be in the centre of Linköping in a few minutes.
Linköping is proud of its long connection with the aviation industry. The Air Force Museum is a highlight for visitors in the area, it features historic aircrafts and covers upwards of 250,000 items of flying memorabilia. If you hire a car from Linköping Airport, you can visit Linköping's old quarter, including the castle and preserved streets like Hunnebergsgatan. Discover one of Sweden's oldest museums, the Östergötlands Art Museum. The city's skyline is owned by the steeples of the Cathedral. Another highlight of the scenery is Linköping's ‘Domkyrka', this is the tallest building in the city and has a great museum to visit inside. More modern parts of Linköping have the Tornby shopping mall and Passagen, an art gallery focusing on contemoporary works in the main square.
