The medieval town of Landskrona stands on the shore at the south western tip of Sweden facing Denmark across the Øresund. It's only about 12 miles from Copenhagen which can be seen on a clear day from Landskrona's waterfront. A 3-minute boat ride from here brings you to the pretty little traffic-free island of Ven, a popular day trip. Hire a car in Landskrona and you'll be able to drive to both the Danish capital and Malmö easily. Closer by is the old fishing village of Borstahusen. See old fishermen's cottages, the harbour, beach and Pumpehuset, a cultural centre with an art gallery, museum and restaurant.
The main visitor attraction in this historic city is the Landskrona Citadel, an intact 16th-century fortification with an elaborate multiple moat system considered one of Europe's finest. Today the fortress is open to visitors and contains a museum. Nearby is the city's art gallery and sculpture park. Landskrona has plenty of modern buildings but if you hire a car you can easily tour round the best of the older ones, including the 19th-century twin-towered Sofia Albertina church, Rådhuset town hall and the town's museum. Look out too for the 18th-century windmill.
