Around 27 million passengers a year use the Central Station at Gothenburg - this makes it Sweden's second busiest station. It's over 150 years old, and so is something of a landmark in its own right. If you pick up a hire car from Gothenburg station you'll find it stands just a few hundred yards to the north of the city centre, on the south bank of the Göta River. For car drivers it couldn't be better placed: one of the main inner city roads passes by the entrance giving easy access to most areas of the city. Even better, the E45 motorway passes by within half a mile.
If you've picked up a hire car at the Central Station you'll be able to explore all that Gothenburg has to offer. It's a busy cosmopolitan city with fine shopping, restaurants, museums and galleries. The renowned Liseberg theme park is only about a mile south, and the monumental Museum of Art is even closer. Other highlights include the Volvo Museum, the waterfront Opera House and the pretty and historic Vasa Church. Further afield, Gothenburg's archipelago is a collection of charming fishing villages dotted on unspoilt rocky islands. It's a good area to explore on boat trips and a brilliant place to enjoy fresh seafood.
