This small town in southeastern Sweden spreads from the E22 north south trunk road westwards towards the pretty Baltic shoreline with a small yacht harbour, lagoons, and numerous uninhabited islands. The city of Kalmar is around 2 miles away. It's a remote but popular holiday area with a largely unspoilt coast. Starting with a hire car in Bergkvara, visitors can discover plenty of quiet picnic spots, beaches and walks along this scenic shore. Most people find it's fun to drive round here: plenty of the smaller roads lead through over-hanging trees right down to the water's edge for memorable views.
Bergkvara's natural attractions are what draws most visitors here. Around the small islands just off the harbour, for example, you can find one of the biggest seal colonies in the Baltic. Visitors take boat trips to see them sunbathing and swimming alongside the boat. It's also a good area to spot eagles. Bergkvara itself has a campsite, café, holiday accommodation, a small sandy beach and boating jetties. There are opportunities for different watersports here too. Hire a car in Bergkvara to fully explore the coastline, including driving along the Dalskärsvägen, a memorably scenic road with water on either side.
