Florø Airport stands near the town of Florø in southwestern Norway. The runway occupies a flat patch on the southern shore of the island of Florelandet about a mile south of the town centre. This is one of Norway's busiest domestic airports and serves the country's most westerly town. Travellers who pick up a hire car at Florø Airport find that it's just a few minutes drive into town where they can pick up the Rv-5 road heading east. This roads winds scenically round the shores of fjords for 35 miles before it reaches the village of Forde and the E39 trunk road.
Florø is a herring fishing port that has also developed links with the offshore oil industry in the North Sea. The harbour is the hub of this maritime town where the Hurtigruten coastal steamers call by twice a day. If you have a hire car in Florø, you can easily tour the town and the picturesque coastal landscape that surrounds it. Start at the Kystmuseet, an impressive nautical museum about everyday life in this remote coastal spot through the ages. Then consider a boat trip from the harbour: the excursion out to Ytterøyane lighthouse at the western extreme of Scandinavia is popular here.
