The city of Drammen stands just 27 miles southwest of Oslo in the most populated region of Norway. The E18 coastal motorway from Oslo to Kristiansand runs through Drammen via a bridge and tunnel. If you hire a car in Drammen you can explore the unique Drammen Spiral, a road tunnel over a mile long that coils up to emerge on top of a summit overlooking the city. Further afield, Drammen visitors can take trips to see the attractions of Oslo, of course, plus the mining heritage centre of Kongsberg, the historical town of Tønsberg and the castle at Drøbak.
Drammen is a sea and river port that utilises its location at the meeting point of the Drammensfjiorden and Drammenselva River. These waterways are also useful areas for sport and recreation. A new footpath along the riverbank has proved very popular. If you hire a car in Drammen you can explore all the sights and these include the Øvre Sund old riverside quarter, a tour of Norway's oldest brewery, the period theatre and the extensive collection of the Drammen Museum, which includes an open-air collection of historic buildings and two preserved farms. The contemporary art museum, the 'Art Laboratory', housed in an old factory, is also a memorable discovery.
