Bardufoss Airport is a civilian and military airfield in a village in northern Norway, between Narvik and Tromsø. There's a small modern terminal building with a café and more than 200 paid parking spaces outside. Visitors who hire a car here find that the vital E6 road runs right past the end of the runway - this is the 2,000-mile-long arterial trunk road that runs the entire length of Norway. The airport is located around six miles from the Norwegian Sea at Sørreisa, via the Rv86 road. Tourist authorities have tried renaming Bardufoss Airport ‘Snowman International' as an attempt to attract tourists.
Bardufoss is really a collection of three smaller communities spread along the Målselvdalen valley, a remote location covered with natural forest and lakes. If you hire a car at Bardufoss Airport you'll be able to explore these wilderness landscapes to your heart's content. From Bardufoss, for example, the E6 highway twists along the Malsel Valley northwards to the sea offering a sequence of frothing waterfalls and rocky rapids through the forest, framed by a backdrop of mountains. Here you can try many outdoor activities such as salmon fishing, hiking and skiing.
