Pavia is just a 4km drive from Milan and has a wealth of churches, a cathedral and probably most famous of all, the Certosa di Pavia; a monastery which lies just to the north of the city, making car hire in Pavia popular. San Pietro and the Ciel d'Oro Basilica is a gem of Italian religious architecture, and the Ponte Coperto which crosses the Ticino River is a typically Italian bridge - slightly reminiscent of the Ponte Vecchio, but with a charm all of its own. Hiring a car in Pavia is available from the town itself and Milan’s Airports.
