You'll find Orvieto's train station in Piazzale Gramsci on the eastern edge of the city. It's a main-line station on the Rome to Milan route. The Piazzale is the city's transport centre, not only for trains, buses and taxis, but it also has a funicular railway station too. This links this lower level of the city with the old centre on top of the rock pinnacle. Visitors can of course pick up a hire car at Orvieto Station too and that allows them to drive to the higher part of the city and explore the sights of the surrounding area.
The old medieval heart of Orvieto is perched on a giant volcanic rock outcrop. Among the narrow streets of this defensive stronghold you'll find the striking black-and-white Duomo cathedral with gruesome apocalyptic frescoes inside. You can tour the underground tunnels containing ancient wells and pigeon farms or simply relax at a pavement café in the Piazza del Duomo. Elsewhere there's a papal palace, several museums and several pretty churches. Perhaps most memorable, however, are the views across the rolling hills of Umbria. Fancy a day trip? If you've got a hire car from Orvieto railway station there's a fabulous choice, including Rome, Perugia and Siena.
With a wide range of travellers passing through our locations every day, we've got a wide range of vehicles on offer to suit your needs - from smart executive saloons to compact family hatchbacks. ***
