The elegant period railway station at the Italian seaside town of Alassio, or the Stazione Ferroviaria di Alassio, stands just inland from the beach and the SS1 main coastal road. Visitors arriving by train from Genoa or the south of France will be easily able to pick up a hire car at the railway station here in Alassio. There's a small car park right outside the main entrance of this small station building standing on Piazza Andrea Quartino. The Piazza leads directly onto the SS1, the state highway leading from the French border near Menton all the way round the Liguria coast to La Spezia.
With a hire car from Alassio Railway Station you'll be able to explore this Italian Riviera resort at the heart of Italy's ‘Baia del Sole'. It's a relaxed town of fine art nouveau villas overlooking the sea with a history of wealthy British visitors. The Muretto di Alassio was built by a local artist in the sixties to celebrate rich and famous visitors, including Hemingway and Chaplin. The soft sandy beach is the main draw today with its palm-fringed promenade lined with restaurants. At one end is the 16th-century stone fort and, behind the beach, the old town centre is a maze of historic narrow streets housing boutiques and bars.
