North of the stunning Balaton Lake you will find Veszprèm, a city that is said to have been founded across seven hills. Steeped in history and rich in legends, it's an educational and fascinating place to visit. You can hire a car in Veszprèm and take the half hour drive to Kinizsi Castle, which was first built in the 14th century. You can also take a shorter ten minute drive and visit the Veszprèm Castle which has a 48 metre tall Fire-watch tower which is rich in gothic and baroque architecture. Gyor and Budapest can be easily reached in an hour and a half.
If you chose to take advantage of car hire in Veszprèm, you can take the ten minute drive to visit the Gisella Chapel, a gothic style chapel, built in the 13th century. You can also visit the statues of King St Stephen and Queen Gizella, which were created for the 900th anniversary of the death of the King, in 1938. Another great place to visit if you are in Veszprèm is Veszprèm Zoo, which is just under a ten minute drive away from the city centre, it's an easy and quick day out that's packed full of exotic wonder.
