Sitting on the banks of the Sarthe, nestled in the region of Pays-de-la-Loire, is the small commune of Solesmes.
As a predominantly acricultural region, the commune is dominated by the stunning Solesmes Abbey, founded back in 11. Formerly a Benedictine monastery, the abbey has fallen into decline a number of times during its history, most notable during the Hundred Years War and the French Revolution but after some notable renovations, it stands proudly above the Sarthe.
A second abbey is also in the town. St. Cecilia's Abbey, which was built for women, is also located in Solesmes
