Solenzara, also known as Sari-Solenzara, is situated on the western coast of Corsica – a particularly privileged position with access to both the Bavella Mountain and the Gorges of the Solenzara River. With its mountainous geography and high altitude it is great for a true Corsican hiking experience. You could also venture up into the Aiguilles de Bavella, the Bavella Needles, and into the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse.
Another mountain, Monte Santu (Santo), leads down to the rugged coastlines to white sandy stretches and sprawling panoramas.
Visitors to Solenzara often choose the town for its favourable location with regards the Bavella Mountain. You can drive to the peaks of Monte Santu which are just outside the confines of the town itself (via the D68) or, alternatively, head for the Bavella Needles via the D268.
By renting a car the unspoilt island of Corsica really comes into its own. The romantic city of Porto Vecchio is less than an hour south on the N198 or, if you'd prefer to experience the famous seafood of Aléria, head north to the beautiful Mare e Stagnu beach.
