The town of Montmorillon in Poitou-Charentes is best known for two features; its literary traditions including the book fare, which takes place every two years, and the invention of the Macaron - a sweet confection made from almonds. The Cite comprises the restored medieval part of town which is full of famous landmarks such as Notre Dame and its Crypt of Saint Catherine. Hiring a car in Montmorillon is certainly worthwhile as there are a host of small towns nearby to explore and delight in. Saint Savin, Poitiers and Chauvigny are all nearby. Car hire in Montmorillon is available from the town itself, La Rochelle and a host of arrival points across western France.
