Metz is a romantic French city, with the Moselle River branching out beautifully to form canals and islands amongst the historic streets. The Cathedral of St Stephen, the Opera House, the Protestant Church, and the cobbled streets of the old town around le Place de la Comedie sum up the atmospheric old world charm of this historic city, whilst the modern Pompidou centre highlights the modern cultural vibrancy of the place.
The city isn't always bustling with tourists so car hire in Metz is common. Hiring a car in Metz is available from the Mets Railway station or Lorraine Airport.

On entering the city, most tourists will tend to head for the Old Town and Place de la Comedie, which is home to the wonderful Opera House of Metz Métropole. The Cathedral of St Stephen is rightly the city's major landmark, but the nearby Protestant Church is ultimately picturesque and Saint Pierre aux Nonnains Basilica is an incredible relic from history. The Pompidou Centre provides a dose of new age culture.
Much of the centre of the city is pedestrianized, but hiring a car in Metz is still popular to explore the surrounding Lorraine countryside. Rent a car in Metz and cities such as Nancy are just 45mins away on the A31. The A4 leads east and west as an important European access road.
