Mâcon is a famous wine producing region in the south of Burgundy, close to the Northern Alps. Chamonix and the Grand Massif are only two hours away by car – car hire from Mâcon doesn't just open up this amazing skiing region though. The castle is in the midst of the vineyards of the Mâconnais, and has a 15th century marketplace.
