Challans is in the Pays de la Loire region of West France, close to the Vendée Islands. The large town is known as the ‘duck capital' due to it being famous for breeding ducks. Formerly famous for its fairs, Challans retains the tradition by hosting the Faire des Mines annual five day fair in September, where locals dress up in period costumes.
