Challans is in the Pays de la Loire region of West France, close to the Vendée Islands. The large town is known as the ‘duck capital' due to it being famous for breeding ducks. Challans restaurants serve many duck-based dishes and is proven popular amongst famous French chefs. Formerly famous for its fairs, Challans retains the tradition by hosting the Faire des Mines annual five day fair in September, where locals dress up in period costumes. With the town's large selection of over 200 shops, restaurants and cafes, hiring a car from Challans is a great way to explore the town.
Challans is a modern French city with lots of attractions; these include exploring castles, theme parks and wildlife reserves. Car hire from Challans is worthwhile to see the two Vendée Islands, one of which can only be reached by a causeway at low tide. The crossing is only 40 minutes from Challans by car, the islands make a great day trip, with their ancient castles and beautiful scenery. Alternatively visit Karting de Challans, a go karting centre just outside of the town, its 700m go-karting track is a popular attraction for both adults and children. Or another place of interest amongst families is L'Isle aux Jeux, an all year round indoor activity centre full of entertainment for children.

At pick-up if you decide to bring your own snow chains or do not intend on driving on the roads subject to this requirement, you may decline the equipment by signing the appropriate release form.
