Turku is one of the largest cities in Finland, and is located a couple of hours drive west of Helsinki and at the mouth of the Aura River. This city is sometimes regarded as the beacon of Finnish culture as it's the oldest city in the country, first founded in the 13th century. There are many important cultural sites and landmarks scattered throughout Turku that tourists should explore.
The city was also named as the European Capital of Culture in 2011, underlining its cultural importance in Finland. Tourists recommend you hiring a car from Turku Airport to make the most of this fascinating city.
For a dose of fascinating history you should visit Turku Castle where you can learn about the role Renaissance culture played in Finland. This is also one of the oldest buildings in the entire country and is well worth a visit. The city is full of great art galleries and one of the best is the Wäinö Aaltonen Museum, which displays many works by naturalistic artist Wäinö Aaltonen.
If you crave some adventure then try an Archipelago Sea-Kayaking Tour for the whole day. This tour is ideal for beginners, and it's a great way to experience the outdoors. Hiring a car from Turku Airport is the best way to see all of these attractions.
