The small town of Nummela stands in southern Finland, just 27 miles northwest of Helsinki. It is the centre of the Vihti region, which combines an agricultural and forestry heritage with modern commuting to the nearby capital. Visitors who hire a car in Nummela find that it is well connected to the national road network. The Route 25 (E18) passes close by, linking to both Turku and Helsinki, and the capital's ring road is only a 15-minute drive away. The Nummela region makes a good touring destination, characterised by lakes, gentle hills and valleys, dotted with old manor houses.
The town has its own airport, Nummelan Lentokeskus, just to the west of the centre. If you have a hire car in Nummela you'll easily be able to tour the local sights. The highlights of the town include the Pictor Gallery, which houses an acclaimed collection of modern art, and the striking modern architecture of the new Vihti library. Most of the attractions are of the active kind, so look out for the Monnari sports complex, and the popular local ice rinks and ice hockey pitches. There is even good lake swimming here and the opportunity for fishing trips by boat.
