Kuopio is a city and a municipality situated in the east of Finland in the region of Northern Savonia. Kuopio is almost entirely surrounded by Finnish Lake Kallavesi, and several areas of the city are actually built on islands. Well known as being the cultural centre of the east of Finland, Kuopio is also famous for the national delicacy of kalakukko which is a kind of fish pastry. Hiring a car from Kuopio Airport allows for quick and easy access to one of Finland's most popular cities; though many streets are designed to be more pedestrian-friendly, it's best to hire a car to ensure your itinerary is covered off more easily.
Rent a car from Kuopio Airport and head to the Puijo Tower which stands almost 250 feet high, and features a revolving restaurant; more than five and a half million visitors have been to the tower. Kuopio is also well known for its academic achievements, with many different institutions building campuses here for a wide range of studies. If you are visiting the city in September make sure to check out the ANTI Contemporary Art Festival. The festival showcases all kinds of art from sculpture to dance. Anti actually means ‘gift' in Finnish as the aim is to make art more accessible for everyone.
