The small town of Grenå stands on the east coast of the Jutland Peninsular in Denmark. If you hire a car in Grenå you will soon note that the capital is 1 miles away as the crow flies, but 23 miles by road. That's because Grenå juts out into the Kattegat Sea on the Djursland peninsular, facing the island of Zealand but the roads lead back through Jutland, Funen and Zealand. At least this puts plenty of impressive sights within range. The historic maritime and beach city of Aarhus and the pretty seaside resort of Ebeltoft are perfect for day trips. Look out too for the Mols Bjerge National Park to the south of Grenå.
Grenå itself has a busy seaside resort and port, with ferries to Sweden and Danish islands in the Kattegat. If you hire a car in Grenå you'll soon find that there's a three-mile-long, unspoilt sandy beach here, it's been voted one of Denmark's best. Meanwhile the town's aquarium has large sharks and plenty of live local species, while the Danish Fisheries Museum focuses on the story of catching fish to eat. Other tourist highlights include a museum of engines, a museum of local history, some historic churches, a marina with lively quayside cafes and a scenic old windmill with views across the town.
