Leoš Janá?ek Airport Ostrava, also known as Ostrava-Mosnov International, stands 12 miles to the southwest of the city of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. It has a modern terminal building and there are regular 90-minute guided tours of the airport. It is a small regional airport but offers international facilities, like hotels, a business lounge, shops and dining options. It was built in the village of Mošnov but the nearby town of Pet?vald is the closest place with normal restaurants, shops and accommodation. The airport occupies a flat site among attractive farmland dotted with woods and lakes. If you hire a car at Ostrava Airport you can reach the city centre easily via Route 58.
Ostrava stands in the far east of the Czech Republic, in a broad river valley close to the Polish and Slovak borders. If you drive a hire car into the city you'll see it has a heritage of industry and coal mining surrounding a grand city centre around Masaryk Square. This is where the Old Town Hall Museum stands, although the New City Hall has a more exciting viewing tower overlooking the whole city. Ostrava is also home to one of the world's largest mining museums and a restored steel production centre is also open to visitors. Other highlights include Ostrava's 13th-century Castle and The Miniuni, a collection of model replicas of European cities.
