João Correa da Rocha Airport stands right next to the city of Marabá in northern Brazil. The airport and the city both occupy flat land between two winding rivers. The domestic airport is on one side of the BR-230 Trans-Amazonian highway, the grid pattern of the city stand on the other side. The airport has a fairly humble low-rise terminal building with a corrugated roof but there's plenty of parking outside. Visitors who hire a car at Marabá's João Correa da Rocha Airport can easily reach the various parts of the city that are separated by the junction of the rivers.
If you have a hire car in Marabá you can really explore the different areas of this provincial city. The Rio Tocantins and Rio Itacaiúnas meet here and the city spreads across their bridges, islands and riverbanks. From the airport you can drive to the central modern part of Marabá along the BR-230 dual carriageway by a bridge crossing the Itacaiúnas. From there the BR-222 crosses the wider Tocantins on the Ponte Ferrovia to a third part of the city on the far bank. The visitor highlights to look out for include sandy river beaches and the city museum housed in an old neo-classical palace.
