Just 4 miles north of the metropolis of São Paulo is the smaller city of Jundiaí. Visitors who hire a car in Jundiaí can obviously travel to São Paulo too and see its attractions, which include Paulista Avenue's grandeur and excitement, Ibirapuera Park's urban greenery and the culture of the Museum of Art. São Paulo's international airport is easily reached in just over an hour's drive. Closer to Jundiai is the Japi Mountain State Park. This is a large area of scenic untamed rainforest that offers opportunities for farm-stays, adventure sports and ecotourism. Jundiai's local domestic airport (Comandante Rolim Adolfo Amaro State Airport) is just four miles west of the city centre.
Being so close to São Paulo means that Jundiai attracts commuters who travel to the bigger city to work. The Jundiahy suburb is worth touring if you have a hire car. It's an up-market area of fine houses and gardens among the river valleys. Other highlights of the city include the impressive Companhia Paulista Museum telling the story of the people and history of the region and the gothic cathedral of Nossa Senhora do Desterro with its painted interior. And don't miss the 'railway village' of colourful cottages in front of the station; it is a Brazilian national heritage site.
