The airport at Salzburg is the gateway to the city and the skiing areas nearby. The Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Airport is two miles southwest of Austria's fourth-largest city and just one mile from the border with Germany. Visitors who hire a car at Salzburg Airport soon find that there is a large indoor and outdoor parking area. Road connections are good as the airport stands just inside the main E60/A8 Westautobahn trunk road that leads west towards Munich (90 miles away) and east towards Vienna (190 miles via the A1 motorway). Route One leads straight from the airport across the Salzach River and into the centre of Salzburg.
