Austria's third-largest city has a small international airport about eight miles southwest of the city itself. The ‘Flughafen Linz Blue Danube Airport' has shops and cafés plus 11 gates and a covered car park. Visitors who hire a car at Linz Airport soon find that the site lie to the north of the Traun River and Highway One, alongside the small town of Hörsching. A shuttle bus from Hörsching train station takes travellers direct to the airport terminal. Hörsching itself has a selection of restaurants, shops and hotels, although there's a much greater range of facilities in the city of Linz.
Linz stands on the River Danube in northern Austria. The Czech border is just 20 miles north. If you hire a car in Linz, you'll easily find the historic buildings located around the city. Start at the grand old main square and see sights like the column to commemorate victims of the plague and the old pigeon market. Other highlights include the Imperial Castle, and some beautiful churches. Down by the riverside is Brucknerhaus concert hall which seats 1,420 people in the main hall and the old pilgrims' church is located on Pöstlingberg Hill.
