How to get from Newcastle Airport to Newcastle City Centre
Once you’ve picked up the keys, you can get into central Newcastle in as little as 15 minutes.
- Follow the exit signs to leave the airport premises, taking the 2nd exit at the Newcastle Airport roundabout.
- At the Kenton Bar Interchange, take the 3rd exit on to Ponteland Road.
- Head over the next roundabout to stay on Ponteland Road.
- Stay on Ponteland Road until directed towards City Centre North.
- Stay left to join the B1318.
- Take the next right towards Claremont Road and follow this into the centre.

- Get on the A696 heading northwest from Newcastle’s city centre.
- Follow signs for Newcastle International Airport, coming off at the 2nd exit at the titular airport roundabout.
- Follow the road round to the Hertz drop-off parking lot, clearly signposted.
We’re just a short walk from the entrance to the terminal building.
What to do when you return your hire car
Dropping your car off is straightforward and simple. Just return the car to our airport lot by the agreed date and time on your booking confirmation. You can hand the keys back at the pick-up desk in the airport terminal where our staff will complete your return.
How to extend your hire car booking
You can extend your Hertz rental by letting our staff know when you pick up your vehicle or contact the branch once you are on the road to arrange for additional days.
There may also be the option to return you car to a different location than Newcastle Airport. Please let us know if you plan to do this when you first pick-up the vehicle. There may be additional charges and doing so is restricted to certain locations and vehicles.

The car I booked was not available, but after some discussion and about half an hour I was given a higher class/more premium EV than what I had booked. The vehicle (Skoda Enyaq 85) was clean and in good condition with nearly a full charge and very good spec.
