Driving in Central London – Paying the Congestion Charge

London Congestion Charge Zone

Paying the Congestion Charge

The Transport for London Congestion Charge is a daily charge for driving a vehicle within the charging zone between 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday, excluding Weekends, Public/Bank Holidays and on or between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Hire vehicles are not exempt from the Congestion Charge and it’s your responsibility to register the vehicle you are driving, even if you’re a visitor from outside the UK, with Transport for London.

The Congestion Charge can be paid in advance, by midnight on the day of your journey or by midnight the following charging day.

If the charge is paid late, it rises in price, and you can only pay via the call centre on 0343 222 2222 or via Transport for London’s Congestion Charge page. This website also has details about Penalty Charges for late payment or non-payment.

We will charge you an extra administration fee, as well as the original Penalty Charge, if we receive a late payment demand relating to the vehicle you’ve hired or have to pay on your behalf.

Travel Tip: Our Marble Arch branch (near Oxford Street), Victoria branch (near London Victoria and next to the Coach Station)

and King’s Cross St Pancras on St Pancras Road are all outside of the Congestion Charge Zone.
