Winter driving in Norway

Arctic winter driving is no joke. Here are some tips that will make your trip safer and more comfortable.

  • Remember to scrape the windows completely free of snow/ice before you start driving. Use the snow brush/scraper you find inside the car. Only scrape the windows and head lights (if necessary), do not scrape the bodywork as this will cause scratches and additional costs for repairs.
  • Always adjust your speed to the driving conditions.
  • Braking takes (much) longer on icy and slippery roads.
  • Keep a good distance from the car in front.
  • Do not overtake in poor driving conditions.
  • Never stop in the middle of the road to take pictures.
  • Do not rely on map applications, you can get lost or get stuck in deep snow.
  • Follow Norwegian rules and familiarize yourself with signs, laws and regulations.
  • Always wear a reflective vest if you have to go outside the car on the road.

Damage check

Please inspect your vehicle upon pick up! Damage log and photos are attached to your electronic rental agreement on MyPage.

If you find damage that is not reported in the damage report, please take pictures of the damage and the odometer (mileage counter) inside the car and send them in through MyPage.

Don't hesitate to ask our staff in the car park if you need help.

We encourage all our customers to take pictures of the car from different angles, then you will have evidence in any future dispute about claims.

Automatic toll stations (AUTOPASS)

There is an AutoPass chip in the windscreen of the rental car. You will be charged retail prices + VAT for your passes on automated toll roads. Remember to pay at the place where there are smaller manual toll stations. Then you avoid incurring expensive invoice fees afterwards.

Ticketless parking (ANPR)

Automated license plate recognition is now more and more common in car parks in Norway. Ticketless parking means that you either have to settle for yourself via apps such as EasyPark, Apcoa Flow, Autopay, ParkLink, Sesam Sesam, YouPark or at the on-site parking machine before you leave the area. Then you avoid incurring expensive invoice fees afterwards. Remember to delete the rental car from the parking app after the rental period. It is the renter's responsibility to remove the rental car from their parking apps. If you don't do this, you can be charged for the next trenter's parking.

We have an agreement with the parking app Easypark.

Download the app, register an account and add the rental car's registration number to the app as a temporary car. Remember to select the date and time when the car should be deleted in the app.

IMPORTANT! Add your rental car's registration number to the app before you enter the parking area, and then pay for your parking through the app. The rental car will be automatically deleted from the app if you add it as a temporary vehicle with a time and date.

easypark

If you do not settle your payment in the app, you will be charged for the cost of the parking plus an administration fee of NOK 60 per parking (this only applies to parking facilities with Easypark).

For roadside parking in Oslo we encourage you to download the app Bil i Oslo. You can find out more about parking in Oslo and the Bil i Oslo app here: https://www.oslo.kommune.no/gate-transport-og-parkering/parkering/priser-og-betaling-for-parkering

Charging electric cars in Norway

This car may not be fully charged. If the car's charge status is lower on return than on collection, we can charge it for you. Please note that a service fee may apply in addition to the charging cost. To plan your journey and find chargers along the route, we recommend using the Elton app. We offer direct invoicing on the lease. Follow the instructions on My Page to activate through billing for Elton.

Fuel level on return

Diesel/unleaded: Deliver the vehicle with a full tank, or with the same level as it was on collection. Then you avoid a fee for filling up fuel.

Electric vehicles: If you return the vehicle with 75% or more, you will not be charged any additional fees regardless of the level at which it was collected.

A prepared rental car

Before you receive the car keys, the rental car has undergone an extensive safety and quality check. Each individual car receives thorough damage follow-up in addition to cleaning, service and technical maintenance. All findings are registered in a digital platform that is visible on MyPage in your digital rental contract.

Although we try our best, sometimes we also make mistakes. That is why it is extra important that you go over the rental car and compare the damage log and the car before you set off. We also encourage you to take pictures of the car from all angles so that you have documentation of the car's condition before you take it into use.
