Pick up was a breeze, car was ready, so just quick doc signing at their parking lot location and off we went. Returned early in the morning before they opened, took the last open spot in the Return section - could be an issue for someone after me. Knocking off one star for the following reasons, hopefully this will get Hertz attention and be addressed: - Upon pickup, I was told to inspect the car and communicate any existing damage to a 'guy at the exit check point'. Well, there was no guy and no exit check point (like the booths we have here in US), so something to be aware, given how are European rentals treat every little scratch and dent. We rented EV (Polestar 2), and here's few suggestions to Hertz how things could be improved: - Have a laminated card that would cover basics of EV charging in Italy, i.e. most chargers don't have cables and you have to use the provided one. Which, by the way, we had to search for as it was in the 'frunk' (=front storage compartment under the hood) that Polestar, in their infinite wisdom, made totally non-conspicuous and very user-unfriendly - it's first opened with a hood latch followed by a security release, which, on a hot day, you're guaranteed to get your fingers burned while fishing for it in the narrow opening . - You also need to download multiple apps on your phone (many providers share access to chargers, but it's not 100%), some apps wouldn't accept any US cards, some would prompt for Tax ID, birthday (!) and other completely unrelated and suspiciously intrusive info. - Include a quick explanation on how to use toll roads. I'm sure it can be Googled, problem is a lot of times information is outdated or just wrong. - Polestar has a user profile feature, that links many settings, and especially Google maps, to it. The default Hertz profile is fine, the problem is one accidental press on the screen and it logs you out. Hertz profile requires PIN which, when I called the office, was a mystery to everyone. So now, every time you start Polestar - and this thing shuts down every time you get off the driver seat! - you have to accept gazillion Google prompts, turn the radio back on, etc. etc. One last note those who still decide to rent EV in Italy - as of August 2023, expect to pay 0.6-0.7 Euro per kW at regular (=level 2) chargers and close to 1 Euro at superchargers. In lame terms, it takes 30-50 Euro to 'fill up' Polestar and it's good for ~400 km. You can somewhat save by signing up for plans with monthly allowances, which would bring the cost down to 0.4-0.5 Euro range, but still, renting a regular gas vehicle may be a better value proposition depending on your circumstances.

Petrol / Diesel vehicles:
If you do not take our Fuel Purchase Option (FPO) – see Fuel Policy for details - and do not return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, we will fill the tank for you and charge you for the costs we incur and the service we provide in doing so.
Our costs include purchasing, storing and managing our own fuel supplies, or refilling the tank off site, plus manpower and administration costs. Our service, of course, saves you from taking the time to find a local fuel station and refilling the vehicle yourself.
The refuelling charge for your rental will be calculated as follows:
1.1 x weekly pump price taken from the EU Commission Energy website plus €36.60 (including tax) service charge.
We will show the actual cost of refuelling on your rental agreement when you pick up your vehicle.
Electric vehicles:
Hertz will record the vehicle battery charge at the start of the rental. Failure to return the vehicle in the same state of charge as at pick-up will result in a recharging fee per missing kWh.
