We got an EV, which is quite an experience. The Polestar was an excellent car, but charging the car is another experience. We couldn't find a working (!) fast charging stations (20 mins charging till full) across our journey, only the slow ones (which takes hours to charge till 80%). So you are good with taking an EV if the place where you are staying has a charging station for overnight charging. Otherwise, take a petrol car. Therefore, we didn't manage to bring the car back to Hertz fully charged at 80%, and consequently, we had to pay an additional fee. At all counts, the staff was very helpful, and we were helped quickly.

Forgot to write a review of my experience back in late September and early October 2023 and wanted to provide some fairness. The night before, I was freaking out from all the reviews I read and tried to figure out an alternative car rental, only to have a perfectly fine experience with this Hertz. Outside of the longer wait lines than other companies, we got everything that we asked for. The right type of car, coverage and duration. Any damages were noted, even the smallest ones (slight scratch on light fixtures). The reception was very helpful, did not ask many questions and helped us through and we were out with our car within 10 minutes of being helped. I would still be cautious because I did notice others who had issues, but from MY personal experience, it was good.

I rented a prepaid small car with a manual drive and upon arrival was immediately upgraded to an automatic without extra charge which I was super happy about. There was no line and the Hertz employee, Claudia, was an absolute darling. Getting the car and taking it back was very simple. One star less because it was quite dirty on the outside and could have been washed.

The Gentleman at the Edinburgh desk was extremely busy (Jebrel from Jordan), but he attended to each customer as professional as one would expect. He was calm, collected and he explained everything, including some of the extra charges that would add protection to yourself the customer. I see that there are a lot of negative reviews on the Hertz Edinburgh, and I thought it was necessary to at least add a positive experience. I have only given 4 stars, as this was due to the fact that only one person was on the desk, and it was a wait of 20 minutes, but you could clearly see the gentleman was working hard, but we managed to get all the things we needed in the end. I was with two small children too. I think everyone ahead of me was very satisfied with his manners and he professional attendance to all personnel, given the fact it was almost midnight, and some people can get tired and irritable with customers who just want to get home. Even the American lady ahead of us, was hiring an electric car, and was unfamiliar with the vehicle, Jebrel even told her when he was free, he would come and show her, which I thought was very pleasant and kind. Hertz, please attend to some of the things some people have left, but I though you gave a good service. Also, the cars were parked in a darkish site, so it was hard to thoroughly check the car, but the sent pack of information via e-mail did clearly show the marks and scrapes and bumps, but this would be my only fault, as people get very scared when a HUGE charge could be given to them for not being a careless person.

Petrol / Diesel vehicles:
If you do not take our Fuel Purchase Option (FPO) – see Fuel Policy for details - and do not return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, we will fill the tank for you and charge you for the costs we incur and the service we provide in doing so.
Our costs include purchasing, storing and managing our own fuel supplies, or refilling the tank off site, plus manpower and administration costs. Our service, of course, saves you from taking the time to find a local fuel station and refilling the vehicle yourself.
The refuelling charge for your rental will be calculated as follows:
3 x weekly pump price taken from the EU Commission Energy website.
We will show the actual cost of refuelling on your rental agreement when you pick up your vehicle.
Electric vehicles:
Hertz will record the vehicle battery charge at the start of the rental. Failure to return the vehicle in the same state of charge as at pick-up will result in a recharging fee for the missing kWh. The per kWh fee changes from time to time with energy price adjustments but the current per kWh fee amount is available at the pick-up location.
