Driving in and around Lincoln

A small but striking city, Lincoln sits in Lincolnshire in the East Midlands. Its history stretches back as far as the Iron Age, later becoming a Roman town. Today its Norman castle and Gothic cathedral both still stand proud and attract visitors from far and wide.

Road connections here are excellent, allowing access to Yorkshire, the West Midlands, the East coast and the Humber. The A15 runs north to south through the city, coming up from Peterborough and Sleaford before continuing on to Scawby and Barton-upon-Humber where it ends.

Drive west of Lincoln on the A57 for Markham Moor, Worksop and then Sheffield in South Yorkshire. The A46 is another main connection here, cutting south-west to Newark and Leicester, and north-east to Market Rasen, Grimsby and the Humber. Finally, the A158 skirts the south of the Lincolshire Wolds as it threads through Horncastle en route to Skegness on the coast. A ring road is currently under construction, connecting bypasses on the A46 and A15.

Navigating the city centre is relatively easy, and there are numerous car parks across Lincoln, including several multi-storey options. The local council maintain a very handy map of them online. There are permit only parking zones on some streets, and you can use the same website to arrange a visitor’s permit should you require one.

Once in the centre you can use the B-roads - notably the B1003 and B1308 to get to our branches and the important retail parks and trading estates. These include the Tritton Road (B1003) trading estate, and the new Lindongate development that’s still in progress. Along the B1308 you’ll find the Lincoln Business Park, while the city also has branches of Wickes, Homebase, B&Q and Hykeham DIY, making major DIY purchases in your van a breeze.

Van hire in Lincoln ensures that you can do business or shopping in this lovely city with ease, before parking up and enjoying the charms of the truly memorable cathedral.
