Known as the furniture capital of England, High Wycombe was once the leader in chair-making during the 19th-century industrial boom. If you’re buying new furniture and need to transport it across town, hiring a van can be a great way to get your new purchases home safely.
Eden Shopping Centre is a great place to shop, with a huge range of retailers under one roof including department stores and popular homeware brands. There are hundreds of car parking spaces on site too, starting from around £1.50 per hour. Just make sure your van comes within the height restrictions, which is usually around two metres. If your van is taller than the limit, you can use pay and display spaces around the town centre.
It might be on the cusp of an Area of National Beauty, but High Wycombe is also well-connected by several motorways. It’s less than an hours’ drive from London on the M40 southbound, while heading north-west on the same motorway takes you to historic university city of Oxford in 40 minutes and the Midlands metropolis of Birmingham in 90 minutes.
The closest airport to High Wycombe is Heathrow. You can either go via the A404 or the M40, traffic depending. On a clear run it can take just 20 minutes, but on London's roads you should always leave plenty of time to spare, to make sure you’re there to meet your arrivals.
The A40 on West Wycombe Road and the A404 along Amersham Hill are two traffic hotspots in High Wycombe. During peak times of the day, these areas can become quite congested, so avoid them if possible.
