There were roads in and out of Birmingham in Roman times - happily, they’ve been modernised since. The wealth of connections here means it’s a city that’s accessible from surrounding towns as well as further afar, with roads spraying out in all directions to all parts of the UK.
The M6 cuts just across the north of the city centre, coming from the western town of Bedworth and then heading north to connect Birmingham with Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent. It then goes into Lancashire, Merseyside and finally the border with Scotland north of Carlisle. You can leave the M6 at various points to find Manchester and Liverpool. There are tolls in place for using some parts of the M6 near Birmingham, with more details available online.
East of Birmingham itself you can connect with the M1, which links London with Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leeds and is one of the country’s main arteries. A roads make Birmingham easily reachable from Wolverhampton, Sutton Coldfield, Dudley, Solihull and other notable towns in the Midlands and Black Country.
There is a handy ring road, the A4540, which lets you skirt the city centre and access it from the side that’s most convenient for you - Broad Street, Bristol Street and the A38 are the key roads into the centre. There is ample parking, with numerous multi-storey car parks. The council maintains a list of the car parks, their locations, rates and any notable restrictions online. It also pays to be aware of several pedestrianised areas which you won’t be able to access in your van.
The Bullring is perhaps the most famous of Birmingham’s shopping areas, but there is also The Pallasades centre and the Great Western Arcade, plus various retail parks and DIY megastores. Whatever your van hire needs in Birmingham, we’ll help you get to the right place in the right vehicle.
