With its proximity to London and an enviable location in the south-east, with the additional benefit of great connections to the south-west, it’s no surprise that Basingstoke is a thriving town.
The main road servicing the town is the M3 motorway, which runs along the south of Basingstoke. It makes its way from Sunbury-on Thames in Surrey, inside the London Orbital circle, all the way down to Southampton. It connects Basingstoke quickly with the likes of Chertsey and Fleet to the east and Winchester to the south-west.
Two major A-roads lead from Basingstoke too. Take the A33 north-east and you’ll soon reach Reading, or drive north-west on the A339 through Newbury to enter the North Wessex Downs. You can also join the M4 here, which heads east to London and west past Swindon, towards Bristol and England’s west coast.
The town itself is compact and finding your way about is relatively plain sailing. Churchill Way is the main road running across the town, with parts designated west or east. The ring road comprises the Ringway West (A340), Ringway South (A30) and Ringway North and East (A339) – the latter linking up with the M3.
In the centre, one of the main shopping hubs is Festival Place Retail Park, with dozens of major brands available here. It also hosts a handy 24-hour car park with 3,000 places, the largest of several parks in the heart of town. It’s best to plan ahead if you need to access Basingstoke’s centre – known as The Top of the Town – as there are several pedestrianised streets.
Whether you’re here to do business or to shop, Basingstoke van hire is an ideal solution if you need a spacious vehicle in a hurry.
