Sherwood Forest has become part of the mythology of England, thanks to its status as the home of legendary outlaw Robin Hood, and it remains a popular free attraction for any tourists in Nottingham. These days it is run by the Sherwood Forest Trust, which seeks to preserve the remaining heathland, woodland and wetland, as well as the varieties of ancient tree. Anyone choosing to pay it a visit will be able to explore all this, as well as the historic Palace of King John, or take in one of the many festivals, concerts, fetes and other activities held all year round there. This makes it ideal for families – whether on foot or bicycle.
