Newcastle

Open six days a week and offering free admission, the Laing Art Gallery is one of Newcastle’s foremost cultural attractions. Dating back to 1901, it houses a fascinating collection of watercolours and oils by British artists, alongside glassware, silver and ceramics. The ground floor is home to the gallery called Northern Spirit, where you can discover arts and crafts by John Martin, Ralph Hedley, Thomas Berwick and other Newcastle-born artists. The Marble Hall, where works by Paul Noble and Henry Moore can be seen, is also on the ground floor, while the upper floor of the Laing Art Gallery displays 19th and 18th century paintings – including the celebrated Isabella and the Pot of Basil by William Holman-Hunt.
