Liverpool's legendary Cavern Club was the city's main rock and roll venue in the sixties. It became famous as the club where the Beatles often played in their early days. Other big names included the Rolling Stones, Elton John and Queen. If you visit the Cavern Club today you'll find it occupies the same site on Mathew Street as the old club but has been completely rebuilt since the Beatles era. Nevertheless it's a great spot to sample the atmosphere of a small sixties cellar bar where the Beatles began. Daytime visitors can climb onto the Cavern Club's stage, night-time visitors can dance to live bands.
