Another Place is the title of a spectacular sculptural installation by artist Antony Gormley. It looks like a scattering of people standing on the sand or in the water. If you visit Crosby Beach you'll find there are 100 of these life-sized cast-iron figures. Gormley used his own body as the model for the statues, each of which is staring out to sea. Visitors will find that Crosby Beach is, in fact, muddy rather than sandy and features extreme tides – so it's not very inviting for bathers. It is great, however, for enjoying these extraordinary pieces of art – and for contemplating the sea yourself.
