Ever since it was first opened in 1992, Eureka Children’s Museum has been delighting and educating families of all ages.

Located in Halifax, roughly 40 minutes’ drive from Leeds, Eureka was the brainchild of Dame Vivien Duffield. She wanted to re-create the kind of children’s museum that she had experienced in the USA. As a result, interaction is at the heart of everything the museum does, and the aim is to help children learn through play.

The museum features six indoor galleries in total, each aimed at covering a particular topic. Most recently, All About Me was opened in March 2013 following a £2.9 million development - covering a huge range of subjects about health, wellbeing and the human body in a very engaging way.

Living and Working Together is a child-sized model of the real world and a real community. Organised as a town square, there are shops, a garage, a bank and many other everyday necessities where children can experience the adult world. Our Global Garden recreates environments from around the world including arctic, jungle and desert conditions, and helps to explain how different climates and surroundings encourage people’s different ways of life.

Sound Space looks at sound and music from both a scientific and a fun point of view. There are instruments to play here too, as well as lots of interactive displays for your children to try out. For the under-fives, there's the Sound Garden and the Desert Discovery areas. Head outside and you’ll find The Beach, one of the largest sandpits in the north of England and the Wonder Walk which is a fun sensory trail.

A great place to spend an afternoon with the kids, Eureka Children's Museum isn't to be missed.
