There’s an old saying that goes “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”, and with the city growing at a record speed, we’d say that’s truer now than it ever was. The capital of the United Kingdom is the largest city in the EU and one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world.
There is no doubt that London has something to offer everyone but with so much to choose from, sometimes you can be almost too spoilt for choice. So we’re here to offer a helping hand and suggest some of the best things to do while you’re in London.
The Theatre
London has been synonymous with theatre for over 400 years and back then, the Globe Theatre was where Elizabethans went for their entertainment. Though the theatre was torn down in the mid 17th century, a reconstruction was built in 1997 containing a superb museum dedicated to Elizabethan theatre as well as staging Royal Shakespeare Company plays. North of the river you will find London’s legendary West End, comprising of dozens of theatres widely considered to be amongst the world’s finest. With a vast array of musicals and plays you’re sure to find something that takes your fancy.
Westminster
Of the 32 boroughs that make up London, Westminster is one of the most popular for tourists. The borough is home to some of the city’s most iconic buildings such as the Palace of Westminster and Westminster Abbey. Situated on the north bank of the Thames, it is accessible via a number of bridges, the most famous being Westminster Bridge. We recommend a trip over the bridge to take in the simply stunning views on offer.
The National History Museum
Situated on the aptly named Exhibition Road, the National History Museum is one of London’s most popular attractions. The museum is host to a wide range of exhibits from Archie the giant squid to Dippy the 105ft long model diplodocus.
Windsor
Located to the west of London, Windsor is between a 30 – 60 minute drive depending on where you are based but it’s well worth the drive. If the Royal Standard flag isn’t flying at Buckingham Palace, then there’s a good chance that Queen Elizabeth is residing at the striking Windsor Castle. This lovely Berkshire town is also home to LEGOLAND, a theme park that’s out of this world.
With all this on offer and more it’s easy to see why London is consistently such a popular place to visit. To take in as much of the capital as possible why not try hiring a car during your stay.
