Chester

After William the Conqueror founded it back in 1090, Chester Castle became the earldom of the city’s administrative centre, but these days it is a popular tourist attraction. Among the sights you will want to take in during your visit is Napier House, located within the inner bailey, which was constructed to serve as a barracks and armoury. Another essential stop will be the Guardroom, with its exhibition detailing the castle’s long and fascinating history. Elsewhere, you can explore St Mary de Castro’s chapel, on the first floor, which boasts beautiful 13th century wall paintings. A wonderful piece of English history, Chester Castle can be enjoyed all-year-round.
