Andrew Jackson was the seventh President of the United States, serving two terms in 1829 and 1833. Though he was born in the States, his parents were born and had lived in County Antrim for many years, in Carrickfergus near Belfast. The cottage in which they lived before departing for America has now been turned into the Andrew Jackson Cottage, where visitors can find out about the life of the former President and the strong ties which the town shares with the foundation of the United States as a result. Also in the grounds you'll find the US Rangers Centre, dedicated to the group of American soldiers which was activated during the Second World War in Carrickfergus.
