Visit Forvie National Nature Reserve to explore an inspiring landscape of shifting sand dunes and wide empty windswept beaches around the mouth of a winding estuary. It's a starkly beautiful area that is carefully protected as a nature reserve. It includes one of Britain's largest sand dune systems and is a bird-spotters' delight. At Forvie you can see a huge colony of eider ducks floating on the Ythan estuary, the acrobatics of diving terns or the busy prodding of wading oystercatchers. Or take a walk through the dunes and discover the remains of a 12th century church half buried in the sands.
