The Swedish east coast town of Söderhamn stands at the end of a long inlet from the Baltic about 15 miles north of Stockholm. Two small rivers drain into the Bottenhavet inlet, which leads to the sea through a collection of small islands. Söderhamn stands just to the west of the main E4 east coast trunk road and three miles north of Helsinge Airport. Visitors who hire a car in Söderhamn can more freely explore the area, which includes a famously scenic coastline and the main regional city of Gävle. This is where you’ll find an acclaimed railway museum, a museum of prisons and an impressive old quarter.
