The Swedish east coast town of Söderhamn stands at the end of a long inlet from the Baltic about 15 miles north of Stockholm. Two small rivers drain into the Bottenhavet inlet, which leads to the sea through a collection of small islands. Söderhamn stands just to the west of the main E4 east coast trunk road and three miles north of Helsinge Airport. Visitors who hire a car in Söderhamn can more freely explore the area, which includes a famously scenic coastline and the main regional city of Gävle. This is where you'll find an acclaimed railway museum, a museum of prisons and an impressive old quarter.
If you have a rental car in Söderhamn you can easily visit the town and its immediate vicinity. Top of your list could be the F15 Flight Museum with its collection of interesting aircraft plus a thrilling flight simulator. The Oscarsborg Tower was built in 1895 in honour of King Oscar just before he cancelled a visit to the town. The white-washed folly stands on a hill with good views over the town. Elsewhere in the town look out for the popular Leos Lekland indoor children's play centre and the local Söderhamn Museum.
