Hertz at Ostersund Railway Station

Östersund's main rail station stands on Ringvägen near the city centre. Travellers who hire a car from Östersund's Railway Station will find that it's a typical example of grand Swedish period railway architecture. It faces a small cobbled square for taxis, buses and bikes, with car parking to one side. Right opposite are the lawns of Österangsparken and the modern city church. Just on the far side of the tracks is the shore of Lake Storsjön. According to local legend, this is where Sweden's version of the Loch Ness Monster lives… and sometimes surfaces. Meanwhile, be careful not to confuse the Central Station with Västra Station less than a mile to the north.

If you pick up a hire car at Östersund Railway Station, you'll find the attractive Old Town streets in the north of the city are lined with wooden buildings and lead themselves down to the shore of Lake Storsjön. Elsewhere, the landmarks of the largest inland city in northern Sweden feature the city hall, impressively illuminated at night, the statuesque water tower and a huge church in the park opposite the Station. In winter there are plenty of snow activities on offer. Östersund is ideal to visit in the winter, self-titling as a ‘Winter City', the ski slopes within the city and ice roads across the lakes make it perfect for winter sports.
