The small local railway station at Degerfors stands among leafy parking spaces in the south of the town. The humble brick complex occupies a site close to Lake Möckeln, just at the point where the railway tracks cross the water. Plenty of train lines congregate at this point - although the station only has platforms on two of them. Travellers who arrange to collect a hire car in Degerfors will find the station is well placed. Main arterial roads pass by close to the station concourse and the town centre is only a short drive away to the north.
If you drive from Degerfors Railway Station in a hire car you'll find that Degerfors is a small modern town. Only 7,000 people live in this spot at the southern end of Lake Möckeln in Sweden's central Lake District. It doesn't take long to discover this is a busy working town that doesn't feature on many tourist itineraries - the steelworks dominate the community. Nevertheless, there's a prestigious golf club here and a modern public square in front of the town hall. Outside town it's easy to find plenty of scenic spots among the lakes and forests of the Örebro region.
