Faial Island is a Portuguese island situated in the Azores. It's often considered the most cosmopolitan and tourist friendly of all the Azores. The island is characterised by its swathe of blue hydrangeas, the vast crater known as Caldeira, the mountain peak of Cabeco Gordo, whale watching, the outstanding National Parklands, and yachting (the island is a common stop off point for yachts crossing the Atlantic).
The island is relatively small and hiring a car in Faial allows you to navigate the sublime natural scenery most efficiently - car hire is available from our two locations on the island.
Properly exploring the island is a must - the crater known as Caldeira and the lofty mountain peak known as Cabeco Gordo are about a 30 minute drive to the centre of the island from the capital, Horta, which lies on the southern coast. Here You'll enjoy the sublime panoramas afforded by the Caldeira crater. Tourists who rent a car in Faial might continue travelling to the far north western aspect of the island to observe the Capelinhos Volcano.
In Horta itself, You'll find relaxing resorts like Porto Pim, which has a wonderful beach and good tourist amenities. The Horta Harbour was once renowned as one of the most exotic tourist spots in the world.
